ABSTRACT

The offects of typewriter use on hand dexterity and grip strength was studied. Subjects were 60 female high school students, 30 of whom had had typing training(experimental group)and 30 who had o n typing experience (control group).Hand dexterity and grip strength were measured with a pegboard and a hand- held dynamometer. The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences of hand dexterity and grip strength between the dominant and non- dominant hands in the experimental group (p>. 05).However, between nominant- hand and nondominant- hand in the control group, we found statistically significant differences of hand dexterity but not hand grip strength (p<. 05). These results indicate that the therapeutic use of a typewriter may inprove the dexterity of patients but not_ grip strength.
