Normative Data for Box and Block Test: Normal elementary school children

ABSTRACT

Objective : The Box and Block test, a test of manual dexterity, has used by occupational thera-pists and other to evaluate physically handicapped individuals. Because the test lacked normative data for normal elementary school children, the result of the test have been interpreted subjectively. The purpose of this study was to develop normative data for normal elementary school children.Methods : Test subjects were 188 elementary school children(male: 85, female: 103) from the one elementary school located in the Seoul. Data on males and females 8to 13years old were divided into 6 age groups. Mean, standard deviations and percentile rank are reported for six age group.Results : Mean values in Box and Block Test were calculated according to sex, age and dominant hand (mali;80.15, female;75.68). In comparison with the scores taken by male and female stu-dents, the scores of male students were higher than those of female students both right hand test and left hand test(p<0.05).Conclusion : These data will enable clinicians to objectively compare a patient`s score to a nor-mal population parameter.
