ABSTRACT

Objective : The purpose of this study was to research the movement of arm and trunk during reaching activities. Methods : Experiments were performed on 20 subjects. They had no medical history of neurological and surgical problems with their arms and right handed persons. Using a regular cup, they moved the cup from one point to another. There are 5 point which is at different distance from the edge of desk on same line. These point was determined according to the length of arm(50%, 70%, 90%, 110%, 130%). We used 3-D analysis system called CMS-HW. This system uses supersonic waves and catch the position of sensor at every moment. We analyzed the movement in arms and trunk, including the distance in the movement of arm and trunk, the timing of peak velocity of arm, degree of trunk rotation. Results : This study shows that the amount of distance in trunk movement significantly increased both 70% and 90%, the amount of degree in trunk suddenly increased both 50% and 70%, and the amount of time to reach the peak velocity in trunk is faster than in arm only at 130%.Conclusion : We should concern the related motion of arm and trunk when we re-educate reaching movement for patients with motor problems.
