The Survey of Occupational Therapy Curriculum for the Standards of Education Programs in Korea

ABSTRACT

Objective : The purpose of this study were to analysis of occupational therapy curriculum for the standards of occupational therapy educational programs in Korea and to prepare the pre-standards for accreditation of World Federation of Occupational Therapists(WFOT).Methods : Cross-sectional survey were conducted of occupational therapy professional(4 yrs. program) and technical programs(3 yrs. program). 22 among 26 programs was collected with each homepage and telephone from March to Jun in 2004. The data suggested mean and percentile after review.Results : 1. Undergraduate programs at a bachelors or diploma level were 3 years or 4 years or 105weeks, mean was 2529.9 hours. 2. Basic science was 1130.6(87.8%)hours, 832.9(104%)hours of program was focused on occupational therapy, and 643.0(64.3%)hours of program was focused on fieldwork compare with a minimum standards of WFOT. 3. 3 of 22 programs fitted with a minimum standards of WFOT.Conclusion : Occupational therapy curriculum was analyzed for the standards of occupational therapy educational programs and preparing the evaluation for accreditation of World Federation of Occupational Therapists(WFOT) in Korea. Therefore, it is expected that an analysis of a contents of curriculum, a educational methods, fieldwork, a educational resources, and a educators to prepare the evaluation system of occupational therapy programs.
