The Relationship Between Hand Dexterity and Writing Message Speed With Cell-Phone in University Students

ABSTRACT

Objective : The Purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between hand dexterity and writing message speed with cell-phone.Methods : The Participants were 47persons with normal hand function in Inje University. After general interview, it examined by using Nine-Hole Pegboard Test (Smith & Nephew Rehabilitation Division version) and writing message speed with own cell-phone. Data from 47 participants were analyzed using paired t-test of SPSS(10.0) to find the correlation between hand dexterity and writing speed.Results : As younger, the hand dexterity was speedy and there was significant relationship between age and writing message speed with own cell-phone(p<0.05). Women's hand dexterity were speedy than men's and there was significant relationship between gender and right hand dexterity(p<0.05). There was no significant relationship between hand dexterity and writing message speed with cell-phone.Conclusion : The results showed that the writing message speed without hand injury was not affected in hand dexterity. But there was significant relationship between hand dexterity and writing message speed on sex and age. So it is necessary to study for writing message speed with hand injury, how does it reflect on improving hand function in field work.
