Need on Home-Based Occupational Therapy of Family Caregivers with CVA Patients

ABSTRACT

Objective : This study was conducted to measure needs on home-based occupational therapy of family caregivers with CVA patients, and to supply basic data for building a health policy of home-based OT system.Methods : The subjects of the study consisted of 168 family caregivers who have had CVA experience at home. The measuring tool with 37 questions (4 points) developed by the author was used through direct in-terview to the subjects. The collected data was analyzed with SAS program.Results : 149(88.6%) out of 168 family caregivers with CVA patients answered they need the home-based OT. The CVA patients with disablement on speech, visual, bladder and bowel showed the higher need on the home-based OT. And the higher the disable grade, the higher the need on the home-based OT(p=0.0001).Conclusion : The findings of the study showed that family caregivers with CVA patients are in strong need on the HBOT for the better quality of life of the patients.
