ABSTRACT
Objective : The purposes of this study were to investigate correlations between the ASIA motor score and the Spinal Cord Independence Measure II and to establish the new standard of the effective treatment method for improvement of motor score during ADL training for people with spinal cord injury. Methods : The subjects of the research were 42 patients who had been suffering from SCI for over 6 months and residing in Busan. The ASIA motor score and the SCIM Ⅱ were employed for evaluation. Results : 1. The outcome between upper limb - entire motor score and activities of daily living had statistically significant correlations (r= .90, r= .90, p< .01) with complete quadriplegia.2. The outcome between upper limb - lower limb- entire motor score and activities of daily living had statistically significant correlations (r= .64, r= .81, r= .87, p< .05) with incomplete quadriplegia.3. The outcome between upper limb - lower limb- entire motor score and activities of daily living had statistically significant correlations (r=- .49, r= .60, r= .61, p< .05) with paraplegia. Conclusion : The results of this study showed that the ASIA motor score and the SCIM Ⅱ had a significant relationship. Therefore, these tools can be utilized as valid outcome measures of occupational therapy intervention for people with spinal cord injury.
