ABSTRACT

Objective : The purpose of this study was to examine the standard scores of intellectual disabilities in theMcCarron-Dial System according to employment, correlations between the subtest factors, factors affectingthe levels of vocational programs, and factors influencing employment.Methods : This research is based on investigating the standard scores of the McCarron-Dial System and theemployment of 139 subjects with intellectual disabilities(employed : 54, unemployed : 85) who receivedvocational evaluation from 2005 until 2007 at the vocational training center for the disabled, which is locatedin Busan Metropolitan City.Results : The results are as follows: First, the standard scores of the McCarron-Dial System were higher inthe employed group than the unemployed in terms of all factors. Second, employment correlations weredifferentiated between the subtests of the McCarron-Dial System. Third, variables significantly affecting thelevels of the vocational programs were different by employment. Fourth, the only factor that significantlyaffected the employment of those with intellectual disabilities was the Assessment of NeuromuscularDevelopment.Conclusion : Based on the results of this study, the higher the standard scores in the subtests of theMcCarron-Dial System for mentally retarded adults, the greater the possibility of their employment.Moreover, the standard score of the Assessment of Neuromuscular Development is a variable that alsosignificantly affects their employment.
