ABSTRACT

Objective : This study was conducted to determine various methods for measuring the Situation Awareness (SA) based driving ability through a systematic review. Methods : Previous studies were found in an electronic database (e.g., Science Direct, PubMed, NDSL). The keyword search terms were ‘driving’, ‘situation awareness’, ‘measurement OR assessment’. Results : The methods used for measuring the driving-related situation awareness were presented, including the freeze method (50.0%), verbal probe technique (20.0%), driving error (10.0%), and driving behavior checklist (10.0%). The tools used for the driving situation awareness measurement of drivers were presented, such as a driving simulator (50.0%), on-road course (20.0%), on-road vehicle with visual detection task (10.0%), a driving simulator with a motion system (10.0%), and a computer-based driving scene (10.0%). Conclusion : Through this systematic review, we found that a majority of studies were concerned with the driving situation for safe driving. This fact suggests that we have to develop new SA based driving measurements and tools for driving rehabilitation practice.
