A Systematic Review on the Effect of Tablet PC for Children with Intellectual Disabilities

ABSTRACT

Objective : This study was conducted through systematic review of studies that involve intervention based on training programs with table PC of usage type and outcome for children with intellectual disabilities. Methods : Data from Jan. 2010 to Dec. 2015 in foreign research database was used and key words search terms were 'tablet PC’, ' intellectual disabilities’. Total 9 studies were selected through additional keywords; 'iPad’, 'iPod’, 'Portable multimedia device’ and 'tablet computer’. Results : The result of analyzing usage type of tablet PC was presented as mobile application(55.5%), Custom designed multimedia resources(22.2%), video modeling(11.1%) and digital textbook(11.1%). The outcome from PC intervention was presented such academic skill(33.3%), task performance(22.2%), in class participation(11.1%), communication(11.1%) social interaction(11.1%) and learning to self-schedule(11.1%). Conclusion : This study has provided information to using tablet PC for intervention through presenting usage type and intervention result for children with intellectual disabilities and would be an evidence for intervention goal.
