ABSTRACT

Objective: The purpose of this study is to analyze the current state of use of rehabilitation medical services for stroke patients and to propose the necessity of revising the rehabilitation service fee system in Korea, as well as improved policy measures through a comparison with rehabilitation medical services in the United States and Japan. Methods: This study targets patients with the main injury code (I60, I61, I62, I63, or I64) from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016. For 78,719 patients aged 18 to 100 years, the specialized rehabilitation claim rate, specialized rehabilitation claim rate by item, number of moves to other medical institutions during hospitalization, and specialized rehabilitation claim rate at the new medical institutions were analyzed. Through the current status of rehabilitation medical use in Korea, the problem was compared with the rehabilitation medical system of the United States and Japan, Results: Specialized rehabilitation claims are made regardless of the type of medical institution, and the readmission rate of patients during the trial period was high. Conclusion: This study investigated the problems of the rehabilitation system in Korea, investigated and compared foreign rehabilitation medical systems, and presented several improvement plans for the rehabilitation system in Korea.
