ABSTRACT

Objective: This study aimed to verify the effectiveness of the “Remember” mobile app, developed to help prevent dementia in community-dwelling older adults. Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted with 100 community-dwelling older adults, Fifty in the experimental group and 50 in the control groups. The experimental group used the “Remember” app 5 times a week for 20 minutes per session over 6 months (135 sessions in total). The control group underwent only pre- and post-evaluations without intervention. Assessments included the Cognitive Impairment Screening Test (CIST). After the program ended, only the experimental group completed a satisfaction survey. Results: The experimental group showed significant improvement in CIST memory, executive function, and total score and maintained normal cognitive function. In contrast, the control group showed a significant decrease in CIST memory, with overall control cognitive decline across measures. Comparison of changes in CIST scores between groups showed that the experimental group had significantly greater improvements in memory, executive function, and total scores than those in the control group. The satisfaction survey results indicated positive responses to all items. Conclusion: Cognitive training using the “Remember” mobile app is an effective intervention that complements the limitations of offline dementia-prevention programs and represents a meaningful strategy for maintaining cognitive health in older adults.
