ABSTRACT
Objective : This study aimed to translate and culturally adapt the Dementia Apraxia Test, an instrument for assessing praxis in patients with dementia, into the Korean version of the Dementia Apraxia Test (K-DATE) and to evaluate its content validity. Methods : This methodological study followed the World Health Organization guidelines for the translation and cultural adaptation of assessment tools. The K-DATE was developed through forward translation, cultural adaptation, expert review, back translation, and approval by the original author. Content validity was evaluated by 10 experts in cognitive rehabilitation and geriatric occupational therapy using the Item-level Content Validity Index (I-CVI) and Scale-level Content Validity Index/Average (S-CVI/Ave). Results : Three items were culturally and linguistically modified. Item 10 was changed from “open a wine bottle with a corkscrew” to “scoop soup with a ladle,” and two German-based pseudowords in Items 19 and 20 were replaced with Korean-based pseudowords. All items met the recommended I-CVI criterion of 0.78 or higher, and the S-CVI/Ave was 0.96. Conclusion : The K-DATE was systematically adapted to the Korean context and demonstrated adequate content validity. This study provided a foundation for a dementia-specific apraxia assessment tool in Korea. Further validity and reliability testing is needed to expand its clinical applicability.
