ABSTRACT

Objective : The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of occupational reminiscence therapy using fairy tale flash animation on cognitive function, social interaction, and behavior problems of hospitalized patients with dementia. Methods : In this study, 24 elderly people with dementia were divided into experimental and control groups. The program was performed three time a week in August to September 2013, for 40 minutes each time, and 18 times in total. The subjects were evaluated through MMSE-K, LOTCA-G, SBS, and NPI-Q. The intervention results were from descriptive statistics and a non-parametric test. Results : The experimental group of elderly with dementia, which applied reminiscence therapy using fairy tale flash animation, had a significant increase in cognitive function and social interaction scores compared with the control group. However, the control group showed a reduction in MMSE-K, LOTCA-G, and SBS scores. The NPI-Q scores showed no significant change in the control group, but statistically significant changes in the experimental group. Conclusion : According to the results of this study, an easing effect was confirmed regarding occupational reminiscence therapy for the elderly with dementia using fairy tale flash animation when applied to the improvement of cognitive function, social interaction, and behavioral problems.
